Merry Christmas!
As 2024 comes to an end, we want to thank
ALL of you for your support during the year.
Seniors are everywhere and many are available to share their wisdom and insight. Although some individual seniors are struggling financially, the senior market is the most affluent as a whole than any other age segment.
There are so many seniors and so many stories. Here are just a few of the over 6000 lives we have touched this year.
First, there is “Jim”. His only blood family is a cousin who has power of attorney for him. Jim made a wonderful presentation at one of our events; but his only relative refused to come hear him. How sad! Jim considers The Senior Network his family as they have become his friend.
Then there was “Maria”. When we met her, she refused to come out of her room. We continued to invite her to some of our events. She finally came. She died this year; but for the last few months of her life, she would call The Senior Network weekly to ask what her social calendar was for that week!
So many seniors! So many requests! So little time!
We started out transporting seniors to doctors, grocery stores, hair dressers, etc. We still do this at no charge but we have learned over our three year existence that the biggest need (whether rich or poor) is socialization! Loneliness can lead to depression and depression to death. Loneliness has become a health issue as much as obesity or smoking fifteen cigarettes a day.
Do you know a senior? Call them today and put a smile on their face.
Can you spare an hour? Once a week? Once a month? Once a year? Be a “Grocery Buddy” or fill “An Empty Chair” for a meal or join the “Adopt a Grandparent” program.
If you are not a senior today, unless some tragedy strikes, you will be a senior someday. Our prayer is for all seniors to have a loving family (whether blood or adopted) and friends to fill their needs. Will you help fill this void?
If you don’t have time, can you make a donation? We are all volunteers; but The Senior Network does pay for mileage when someone is transporting a senior. Of course it varies, but the average roundtrip to the doctors is $15.00.
Our “Sharing With Seniors” events of which we host ten to twelve a month cost about $60.00 each. We have live music, a special feature, door prizes, favors for all, programs, etc.
Although our first annual golf tournament for the purpose of buying a van so we could transport more seniors was a huge success, we netted about $19,000.00 and a good used van is about $25,000.00. It really touched me when Annette (on a low fixed income) insisted upon donating $5.00 towards the van. She saw the need and wanted to help.
We have other expenses such as our monthly newsletter which is distributed in North Carolina and beyond. If you donate, you can specify what you want it to go towards.
We thank you for any support you can give. You can sign-up as a volunteer or donate through our website, theseniornetwork.org or you can call 954-666-2040.
Checks should be made payable to The Senior Network and mailed to The Senior Network, 3650 Rogers Road, Suite 323, Wake Forest, NC 27587. If you need a tax write-off for the year, please postmark by December 31, 2024.
If you are a senior and have a need or request, contact us. We are here for YOU!
