Fear of the Future

Are you worried about the future? About relationships? About retirement? About your family?

Every day the world seems to be moving at a pace that is unbearable, giving us various topics for worry and fret. Whether it be the continual state of negativity from social media platforms, to the never ending concern for the country's economical condition, we are bombarded with disparaging news.

All of these thoughts lead to an overwhelming sense of fear for the future. We find ourselves alone, without support, anxiously awaiting the next day to come. We get lost amidst our despair and sink further into depression.

Often, we become so immersed in these thoughts of "what may be" that we lose focus on "what is". Take a look at what the Bible has to say concerning fear,

"I will extol the Lord at all times; his praise will always be on my lips.

I will glory in the Lord; let the afflicted hear and rejoice.

Glorify the Lord with me;

let us exalt his name together.

I sought the Lord, and he answered me;

he delivered me from all my fears.

Those who look to him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame.

This poor man called, and the Lord heard him;

he saved him out of all his troubles.

The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them."

Psalm 34:1-7

What a comfort it is to know that the God of the universe cares about His children and desires to give them peace from their fears! Our God is not only bigger than our problems, He is the one and only one who is entirely in control of every situation. Our God is the God of the past, present, and future. What He will to pass, will come to pass.

Fearing and worrying about our circumstances is a part of our human and sinful nature, but we must remind ourselves that it is wrong for us to allow such anxiety to control our lives. Trusting in God and leaning upon His wisdom is the only method to biblically live amidst the trials that life throws our way.

By learning to truly trust God and commit our worries to His care, we can experience a level of joy that this world will never give us.
