Pastoral Leadership
B. GABRIEL (GABE) SYLVIA JR. – SENIOR PASTOR
Gabe is a graduate of the United States Military Academy (B.S.), Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (M.Div.) and Reformed Theological Seminary (D. Min.). He came to faith in Christ at West Point (1989) and, after serving in the active duty Army, God called him to ministry in 1994. After graduating from TEDS with the Masters in Divinity, he accepted a call to plant a church in Stafford, VA. He then moved to Orangeburg, SC to work in manufacturing management for a time and then as a youth and family pastor at Trinity church (PCA). In 2007, he accepted a call to be the pastor for young families and singles at Christ Covenant Church (PCA) in Matthews NC. Gabe served there until coming to Christ Our Hope Church as Senior Pastor in Wake Forest, NC in February, 2017.
Gabe has served in three PCA Presbyteries in various capacities from member of the Candidates and Credentials committee (Palmetto), to the chairman of the Shepherding Committee (Central Carolina), member of the Examinations (Central Carolina) and as Moderator of Eastern Carolina Presbytery (2021). He also was adjunct professor of Christian Counseling at the Reformed Theological Seminary (Charlotte).
TIMOTHY M. SHARPE – PASTOR FOR WORSHIP AND COMMUNITY LIFE
Tim studied music industry and voice at James Madison University, and graduated from Reformed Theological Seminary in Orlando with Masters degrees in Counseling and Divinity. He has served in various churches from fledgling church plants, non-denominational mega-churches, to historic Anglican congregations older than our country. Prior to coming to Christ Our Hope, Tim served as Director of Worship at Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Lynchburg VA, helping them transition from single-site, to dual-site, to planting a daughter congregation.
Doctrine and Belief
Christ Our Hope is committed to the system of doctrine summarized in the Westminster Confession of Faith along with the Shorter and Larger Catechisms (est. 1648). Christ Our Hope readily acknowledge the wider family of God and appreciates the work of God’s Spirit in traditions other than their own. While Christ Our Hope gladly stands unified with other Christ-worshiping and gospel-believing (evangelical) churches, they are not fundamentalist (truth-without-grace) nor liberal (grace-without-truth).
Purpose and Vision
The purpose of Christ Our Hope church is to know and offer the power of Christ’s hope.
What that purpose looks like is described in the church's three-part vision, to be: conformed to Christ, courageous in life, compelled to serve.
Christ Our Hope works out this purpose and vision in practical ways through their Ministry Commitments: Biblical worship, discipleship education, covenant community, empowering mercy, intentional outreach.
